Our elephants were once used in the logging industry. Today, they live freely – without riding, without chains, without exploitation.
But the collapse in tourism now threatens everything we have built. Without immediate support, these elephants risk being sent back into harsh working conditions, carrying tourists for up to 10 hours a day. At the same time, their natural habitat – the Sacred Valley – is at risk.
A dedicated ranger protects this unique ecosystem, maintains water sources, and prevents illegal activities. Without funding, this protection will stop.
Mae Kommie is 37 years old. Unlike many elephants, she is neither dominant nor loud.
She is calm. Observant. Gentle.
Mae Kommie takes her time. She often walks a few steps behind the others, quietly observing her surroundings.
When she feels safe, she shows something very special: She gently reaches out with her trunk – slow, careful, almost asking for trust.
It’s a small gesture. But for an elephant who once worked for humans, it means everything.
She loves feeding in the early morning, when everything is quiet. You’ll often find her near the edge of the forest, choosing her food carefully, never rushing.
Bathing is her favorite moment. In the water, she relaxes completely – splashing, breathing deeply, at ease. She loves feeding in the early morning, when everything is quiet.

This calm life is fragile.
Without support, Mae Kommie could be sent back into a system where there is no time to move slowly, no space to choose, no freedom to trust.
A place where her gentle nature would be forced to adapt again.
Mae Kommie is not just an elephant.
She is proof that even after years of hard work, trust can return. And that a different life is possible.
