Protect the Elephants
Protect Their Home

Keep elephants free from exploitation and safeguard the Sacred Valley they call home

Our elephants were once used in the logging industry. Today, they live freely – without riding, without chains, without exploitation.

But the collapse in tourism now threatens everything we have built. Without immediate support, these elephants risk being sent back into harsh working conditions, carrying tourists for up to 10 hours a day. At the same time, their natural habitat – the Sacred Valley – is at risk.

A dedicated ranger protects this unique ecosystem, maintains water sources, and prevents illegal activities. Without funding, this protection will stop.

🐘 Mae Kommie – A Gentle Soul

Close-up of an elephant's face with a monk in background at Hideaway Laos eco-tourism site in Laos.

Mae Kommie is 37 years old. Unlike many elephants, she is neither dominant nor loud.

She is calm. Observant. Gentle.

🌿 Her Personality

Elephants walking along a dirt path with a guide in lush Laos countryside, showcasing eco-tourism and wildlife experiences at Hideaway Laos.

Mae Kommie takes her time. She often walks a few steps behind the others, quietly observing her surroundings.

When she feels safe, she shows something very special: She gently reaches out with her trunk – slow, careful, almost asking for trust.

It’s a small gesture. But for an elephant who once worked for humans, it means everything.

🍃 Her Daily Life

She loves feeding in the early morning, when everything is quiet. You’ll often find her near the edge of the forest, choosing her food carefully, never rushing.

Bathing is her favorite moment. In the water, she relaxes completely – splashing, breathing deeply, at ease. She loves feeding in the early morning, when everything is quiet.

What Could Be Lost

This calm life is fragile.

Without support, Mae Kommie could be sent back into a system where there is no time to move slowly, no space to choose, no freedom to trust.

A place where her gentle nature would be forced to adapt again.

❤️ Why She Matters

Mae Kommie is not just an elephant.

She is proof that even after years of hard work, trust can return. And that a different life is possible.

Our Experience

With over 15 years of experience working with elephants in Laos, we have been committed from the beginning to ethical care and sustainable solutions. This project is not new – it is the continuation of a long-standing effort to give elephants a life without exploitation.

Transparency & Use of Funds

We believe in full transparency and responsible use of every contribution.

  • The majority of all funds go directly to elephant care and Sacred Valley protection
  • This includes food, veterinary care, ranger salary, transport, and conservation work

Project Administration

To ensure that this project runs reliably and professionally, a small portion of donations (approx. 5–10%) is used for:

  • Managing donations and communication
  • Maintaining this platform and campaign
  • Providing updates, photos, and reports to supporters

This ensures that all operations remain transparent, efficient, and sustainable – allowing the maximum impact for elephants and their habitat.
